CENE Media, Kwese partner for premium entertainment

Internet Service Provider, CENE Media in partnership with Econet Media’s Pan-African media company, Kwese recently launched the best in on-demand content for Botswana through the broadcasters video streaming service, Kwese Play.

The partnership will see CENE Media utilise its high-speed fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service to deliver unlimited entertainment to Batswana available on Kwesé Play.

Kwesé Play is a high-quality, RokuTM Powered streaming service that allows viewers to stream content using the Internet. Kwesé Play offers over 100 streaming channels including Netflix, NBA TV, TED, Red Bull TV, the full Kwesé TV bouquet and so much more.

This partnership will see Kwesé Play bundled with home Internet packages from CENE Media, enabling single billing for all the subscription-based content available through the service such as Netflix and Kwesé TV.

The Kwesé Play streaming device is the first set-top box in Africa to officially offer Netflix.

It is an easy plug and play device, giving the user the option to either connect to the Internet using an Ethernet cable, or through Wi-Fi. During the launch, CENE Media CEO, Niall Downey said the format of entertainment is changing and the latter is now at our fingertips.

“(It is) Unbelievable selection. The choice is essentially unlimited. Entertainment today is powered by the Internet, you watch what we want, whoever you are, when you want it. It is beamed into your homes from multiple sources, giving you unlimited choice. The entertainment age is now moving so quickly that it is mind boggling,” he emphasised.

Downey said the modern entertainment model is fluid and they are delighted to showcase the Kwese Play services and to have partnered with Kwese for something truly exciting.

He said this would only get bigger, with more services to be bundled and be available in the very near future for unbelievable value.

For his part the chairman of CENE Media, Neo Moroka said CENE Media started to embrace new data services by offering Video on demand through a partnership with Kwesé Play and using their content platform to offer what you want to watch when you want to watch it.

“CENE Media have delighted to have partnered with one of the biggest content providers in Africa to bring you live news, sport, massive libraries of new TV shows and movies,” he said. Moroka added that ICT is a competitive sector but that should not scare us.

“My view as an ICT player here, is that CENE Media have an obligation to ensure that we bring the right technologies to Botswana. We should start bringing some major international players into Botswana to help fuel this change.

These companies partnered with local companies can provide jobs, good taxable revenues, but most importantly provide the IT graduates with the training and vision to be the entrepreneurs of the future.

These companies will provide them with ideas, platforms to be entrepreneurial and remove the barriers of bureaucracy by bringing people straight into business,” he said.

Also speaking at the official launch country manager for Kwesé Botswana, Goabaone Kgosana said Kwesé has reaffirmed its commitment to providing premium content to African viewers across multiple platforms. “Kwesé Play first launched in South Africa in 2017 and is now in Botswana through this partnership with CENE Media,” she said.

Kgosana added that the partnership is a great opportunity to expand Kwesé’s multi-platform offering while bringing the best in original general entertainment to households in Botswana.
